PIN Study on Therapeutic Patient Education

2016/02/20 - News from the web office

The Psoriasis International Network’s (PIN) Scientific Committee is conducting a worldwide study on Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) in Psoriasis, led by Prof. Jo Lambert of Ghent University.

A first survey was sent via PIN in the last quarter of 2015. This survey’s first aim was to have a rough outline about the use of TPE amongst healthcare providers (HCP) during psoriasis management across the world.

It was completed by 247 unique respondents (34,1% response rate) from 71 different countries. Thank you very much to all those who participated!

38% of respondents report to use therapeutic patient education and 26% claim these methods are evidence-based. Further preliminary results will be presented at the PSO 2016 Congress.

In 2016, PIN will continue this study on TPE in psoriasis with:

  • identifying the barriers for those respondents not using TPE
  • identify the ‘champion sites’ who use diverse TPE approaches
  • contact patient associations to identify the needs of patients to be addressed with TPE through qualitative research
  • develop a toolbox with the champions and patient representatives based on these findings for HCP to be used globally to meet the needs of psoriasis patients.

We hope to count again with your collaboration in these next steps.
