GIPSO at Namur Meeting of Patient Associations

2009/01/30 - News from patients associations

GROUPE D’AIDE A LA RECHERCHE ET A L’INFORMATION SUR LE PSORIASIS (Belgique)

NAMUR, EXHIBITION HALL

MEETING PATIENT ASSOCIATIONS ON DECEMBER 4th & 5th.

At the initiative of the League of Health Care Users (LUSS) and proposed among others by Midwives and Nursing Schools from the Walloon region, 80 patients associations and Mutual Insurance Services welcomed students, health professionals and the general public. It was an opportunity for all these highly interested visitors to meet persons active in the associations and to appreciate their aims and means of action.

1500 to 1600 students attended the meeting. For many of them, accompanied by teachers who had prepared the visit carefully, it was an opportunity to discover particular pathologies and together with the stall attendants to get acquainted with all the scope of their mutual aid actions, information and health education.

Accessible to the general public, it was the ideal moment for delegates of the associations to explain carefully the importance and the social function they can fulfil as a complement of medical action in the relation between doctor and patient.

This was stressed in the speeches of the Ministers of Health and of Social Matters, who by their presence showed their support to the Associations. They also acknowledged their place in the world of health care and the importance of human and material investments made by all these volunteers in their personal involvement to serve the institution, its project and its role in society.
