1st Psoriasis Symposium - Sarajevo 2017

The 1st Psoriasis Symposium, organised by the Psoriasis Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina in collaboration with the Skin Inflammation & Psoriasis International Network (SPIN), the International Society of Dermatology and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology, was held in Sarajevo on 13-15 October 2017.

The Symposium was intended to provide delegates with the latest research and facts on diagnoses and genetics of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, long-term treatment with available therapies and treatments in development.

Approximately 200 participants and 40 guests from 22 countries across three continents participated in the Symposium.
The Symposium’s scientific programme included lectures by 26 international invited speakers, with the aim of presenting contemporary achievements in psoriasis and exchanging experiences.
There were 46 lectures and 21 poster presentations as well as 5 sponsored satellite symposia.

The main topics of the Symposium were:

  • Immune system and psoriatic disease
  • Psoriasis as a systemic disease
  • Psoriasis in childhood and pregnancy
  • Clinical and diagnostic characteristics of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
  • Psoriasis therapy: from conventional therapies to biological drugs
  • Free themes

As a partner organization, SPIN organized a session during this meeting.
Following the welcome and introductory speeches of SPIN Chair Professor Jo Lambert, lectures were held by the members of the SPIN Scientific Committee:

  • Prof. Nejib Doss, Tunisia: Nail psoriasis: differential diagnosis
  • Prof. Christopher Griffiths, UK: Systems medicine and psoriasis management
  • Prof. Romana Ceovoc, Croatia: Topical treatments and phototherapy in the era of biologics
  • Prof. Thomas A. Luger, Germany: Novel therapies for psoriasis: where are we going?
  • Prof. Jo Lambert, Belgium: Tailored prescribing of biologicals: a challenge for the near future.

That event was also marked by the celebration of World Psoriasis Day - a day for awareness and advocacy for all people living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis around the world!

Rich cultural and social programs and the unique multicultural spirit and historical heritage of Sarajevo city have contributed to the good mood of all participants wishing to meet again and to exchange some new experiences.
